Lucca

Lucca is one of the most beautiful art cities in Tuscany, a stop that truly cannot be missed in an itinerary exploring the region.

The city is located on the plain at the foot of the Apuan Alps and is less than half an hour away from the Versilia coast. It is easy to reach both by car and by train from Pisa and Florence.

One cannot speak of Lucca without experiencing its ancient history: from the traces of the Roman amphitheatre visible in the form of Piazza dell'Anfiteatro, to the archaeological remains found beneath the 12th-century church of San Giovanni and Reparata (the first cathedral in the city, located behind the corner of the current Cathedral of San Martino), to the various towers and villas built between the 12th and 16th centuries. The mighty walls surrounding the city are preserved in perfect condition, and since they no longer serve a military role, they have become an important pedestrian area perfect for long and pleasant walks – in short, a park around the town that keeps modernity outside.

There are many things to see, including Piazza di San Michele with its beautiful church, the Basilica of San Frediano, as well as the Clock Tower and the Guinigi Tower, to name a few.

Florence

Florence, a gem in Tuscany.

The city, with its museums, palaces, and churches, houses some of the most important artistic treasures in the world. Among the best-known art and religious sites in the city are: the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, the Baptistry, the Uffizi Gallery, the Bargello, and the Academy Gallery. The churches of Santa Maria Novella and Santa Croce are true art galleries, just as the Medici Laurenziana Library is an exceptional expression of Michelangelo's architectural genius. A visit to Palazzo Pitti is also a must.

But Florence is not just museums; it's also beautiful to simply stroll through the charming streets of the historic centre. Pause on the romantic Ponte Vecchio and continue to the Oltrarno, the "newest" part of Florence. Visit the magical Boboli Gardens or climb the hill behind Piazzale Michelangelo to reach the Church of San Miniato al Monte and enjoy an incredible view of Florence.

Pisa

Pisa is one of the most well-known cities in the world thanks to the famous Leaning Tower, but the city also offers many other interesting things to see.

Entering the splendid Piazza dei Miracoli, the eye is captivated by the Tower, and the experience of climbing to its top is incredible and an absolute must-do.

Once you've appreciated the Leaning Tower of Pisa from every angle, a visit to the other monuments in the Square is very interesting: the Cathedral and the Baptistry. Along the perimeter of the square, you will also find the Camposanto, the Cathedral Museum, and the Sinopie Museum.

An enjoyable walk along the Arno River is a must, leading to the ancient Palazzo dell'Orologio and Piazza dei Cavalieri, once a place where the city's power was centralised and later the seat of the Order of the Knights of Saint Stephen. In the Palazzo della Carovana overlooking the square, you'll also find the prestigious Scuola Normale di Pisa.

Garfagnana

Garfagnana is an area located to the north of Tuscany, bordering some of the most interesting and well-known geographical areas of the region, such as Versilia, Lunigiana, and Lucchesia.

The Garfagnana territory is crossed by the Serchio River, which contributes to the lush and abundant vegetation in a marvellous contrast with the surrounding mountains that frame its profile.

Garfagnana offers numerous opportunities for those who love spending their holidays in the great outdoors: hiking, trekking, or mountain biking, as well as wonderful places to visit, such as the Grotta del Vento, Borgo a Mozzano and its legendary Devil's Bridge, or the ghost town of Vagli di Sotto.

Castelnuovo Garfagnana and Barga are the most well-known localities in the area, in addition to being picturesque medieval villages.

A green area just a few kilometres from Lucca that offers a step back in time, visiting medieval villages, tasting typical products like chestnut flour or "formentone otto file," is an experience not to be missed.

Versilia

Versilia is known for being a beach destination along the coast. It's well-known for being a trendy area of the Tuscan Riviera, often frequented by VIPs, but it attracts many tourists during the summer for its lively summer nightlife with numerous bars and nightclubs open throughout the night, many of which are located on the beach.

The beaches along this part of the Tuscan coast are sandy and gradually slope into the sea. This particular feature makes them ideal for families with young children during the day. The many shops and restaurants along the promenade make Versilia an ideal place to spend the summer.

The main cities of Versilia are Viareggio, Forte dei Marmi, Pietrasanta, Camaiore, Massarosa, Seravezza, and Stazzema, extending north along the coast to Massa and Carrara.
